Friday - Magna!

Hiya People!
My camp name is Mem and I think Peak Adventure is great. We went to Magna today, I found parts of it kid of scary. There are sections for each element (earth, air, fire, water) and most of us (including me) liked fire and water best. There is a fab playground and a large (but expensive) shop, Most of us commented at some point today that it doesn't seen like it's friday already! Last full day tommorow....

Bye People!

Thursday Blog

Today my group made kites and went kayaking. The kites work really well when it's very windy. Kayaking was really fun. We learned the basic moves and played polo. At the end we all had a chance to capsize. Can't wait for tomorrow's activities because they'll be as fun as today's.

This morning unfortunately Lucy couldn't join in the kayaking with everyone else because of her previous accident (she hurt her arm during cycling on Tuesday). Instead she made jewellery with Hanni which was really fun and she made a lot of cool things. Meanwhile, Ruth did kayaking. They played water polo and Peking duck, which was like a relay. After a lunch of beans on toast, we all got into a mini bus which took us to a bridge where we abseiled off. The other team went first so we went on a walk. When we got round to abseiling, we did a tandem off and we chatted all the way down. It was fantastic!

Food...

The food is good! No turkey twisters or greasy chips. The food is good!
A mixed cuisine of wholesome, fresh food. The food is good!
From beef casserole to burgers in a roll. The food is good!
Tasty home-made desserts. The food is good!
The cooks are unbeatable along with their food. The food is good!

Day 3

Lovely sunshine here all day! Today was the first session of kayaking which went well.
All the children in one of the groups completed the cycle ride of 12 miles and several of them commented on the beautiful scenery.

In the morning meeting we looked at what is perhaps the most famous verse in the Bible - John 3 v 16. This evening some children took part in a mini inpromptu drama of the story of Abigail (our obscure Bible character for today).
This was a real laugh but also helped us understand how what we say can count for good or bad.
This afternoon was our walk to Castleton - great effort from everyone and again beautiful scenery all around.

The ice-creams in Castleton seemed to go down well too.
The group that made kites actually had time to fly them today - see photos.

Day 2

No children seem to have had any spare time /inclination to write anything on here so I am afraid it is me again.

Today some people have cycled, some been climbing, some made kites and some made a video. If you saw Griff Rhys-Jones climb Grotto slab on 'Mountain' on Sunday, you might be interested to know that your children did the same today. We had a barbecue at lunchtime and 'Do-It-Yourself Banana Splits' were very popular at teatime.

The day ended with parachute games on the field.

Day 1!!!

Hello! We have had a fantastic day - the weather has been great and the kids seem a lovely bunch. The first activity was to make a model boat from balsa wood. We then took the boats to the stream to test them. Congratulations to Jonathan and Elizabeth for particularly good creations that survived several trips down the stream.

In our meetings this year at Peak Adventure we are looking at 'Lesser known Bible Characters' in the evening and 'Best known Bible verses' in the mornings. This evening we learnt about King Josiah and the finding of God's law in the temple. Two team members talked about reasons why they read the Bible and two others did a sketch that involved one of them getting quite wet.

Following the evening meeting, we went for a walk, had a fire practice and found out about tomorrow's activities. We hope that some of the children will able to contribute to this blog in the coming days.

Not long to go!

We have been starting to get things together for Peak Adventure in a big way in the last week. Today Karen and I met to discuss a very important aspect of the holiday - the food. The menu is looking good! Activities such as abseiling, climbing and archery have been booked and altogether we are looking forward to a great week. Check back here for an update in the week before Peak Adventure - in the meantime we are off on a family holiday to Coniston in the Lake District.
